Well, it's been a while since my last blog entry. But after the triumpful ending of my last post, it was hard to admit what ensued next. Yes, I finally got VMWare installed on Linux CentOS, but that was as far as I got with it. Try as I might, I could not get any version of Windows to install on the virtual machine I had created. It kept crashing with strange errors and in one case, even booted my whole computer (yes, the physical one, not just the virtual one).
So I let it sit for a few days while thoughts stewed in my head. Then some other issues came to light with discussions amoung computer committee members at the church: things like "we'll need a modern Windows operating system for the upgraded furnace software" and "we can get a big discount on Microsoft software for being a non-profit organization."
Really?
Then let's not spend any more time--let's get the latest server OS from Microsoft! After all, I'm much more familiar with that and I know VMWare works on that. (Wait, we won't need VMWare anymore... I guess that's one less thing to worry about.)
So finally, we acquired Microsoft's Windows Small Business Server 2003 and it installed without a hitch. In fact, I'm typing this very blog entry from Internet Explorer on the new server, this time at the church!
Whew!
